We get lots of questions about towing. Will your current vehicle tow a Max? What capacity do you need to be safe? Should you buy a new tow vehicle?
The first answer we always give is: please check your owner’s manual for your vehicle’s proper towing capacity. When it comes to the Little Guy Max, we recommend larger SUVs and trucks. As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to check your trailer’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which is the maximum permissible weight when the trailer is fully loaded for travel.
The Little Guy Max’s GVWR is 3,800 lbs. Vehicles with a tow rating above 3,800 lbs. will pull the Max great in most situations. However, if you’re in the mountains, or traveling over hilly terrain, it’s possible that you may want to up your towing capacity for the best results, for your safety, and for the best gas mileage.
If you’re unsure of how well your vehicle is going to tow, or if you’re new to travel trailers in general, it is highly recommended that you get in touch with your local Little Guy dealer for advice.
Your local dealer can recommend adding helpful items such as weight distribution hitches, anti-sway bars, and more to best determine how capable your tow vehicle is. Your local dealer is highly knowledgable and experienced with all types of towing, and they will get you out on the road safely.

Hitching Up with the Smart Jack™
Say goodbye to labor-intensive hand cranks with the Smart Jack™ power tongue jack option on the Little Guy Max. The Smart Jack™ features hitch height memory recognition. With this feature, users can simply press the hitch height button and walk away. No need to stand and hold the extend button. With a stored hitch height, the Smart Jack™ will automatically extend. The Smart Jack also includes backlit buttons and an LED light package which shines down on to the ball and coupler. The lighting features of the Smart Jack™ are great for those late nights or early mornings hitching up in the dark.
Tires & Wheels
When the rubber hits the road, you want high quality tires and wheels along for the ride. Every Max is built with premium 15″ Kenda tires and aluminum wheels that exceed Department of Transportation requirements. Need to go off-road? Upgrade the tires with our Rough Rider package and explore more rugged terrain. The Kenda M/T “Rough Rider” is an excellent choice for off-road enthusiasts or individuals that require a high traction tire for their environment. The Kenda M/T “Rough Rider” features unique self-cleaning lugs for traction during the harshest conditions.
Install a Rear/Backup Camera
The Little Guy Max comes pre-wired for a rear/backup camera. This is an awesome safety feature to install. We recommend the Furrion™ Wireless Observation System, available from the Teardrop Shop, but other camera systems are available. All you need to do is purchase the camera system, plug it in to your trailer and your vehicle, and you’re all set. No wiring is necessary. Get a full view of everything behind your trailer, whether you’re positioning yourself on the campsite or traveling down the road. The rear camera system will stream to a color display in your tow vehicle, providing a 180º view of everything happening behind you. We highly recommend this option for the superior level of safety it provides.
